Modernize code
* use `using` instead of typdef
* use `collection.empty()` instead of size
* use `auto` if clear
* use `emplace_back` where useful
* use `nullptr` instead of NULL
* use `override` if applicable
* use `explicit` for constructor to avoid implicit conversion
